Arsene Wenger hopes to add a couple of players before the impending transfer deadline, most notably a defensive midfielder, but even without reinforcements the young guns of Arsenal look able to hold their own ground. While experienced central midfielders might be missing in the Arsenal squad, they do have some impressive talents in Denilson, Nasri, Vela, Song, Diaby, Djourou and of course Fabregas. If Arsenal fail in getting hold of a veteran midfielder, these players will benefit from the experience and maybe also deliver the goods themselves. If Arsene seems relaxed, it is for a good reason.

- Wenger watching his troops perform admirably of late.
The style and verve on display at the Emirates Stadium against Newcastle was truly inspiring. Arsenal kept possession and control of the game throughout, mixed with decisive passing and lethal runs forward.
That Arsenal can dazzle on the day is not new, the question is if they can keep up this style of play throughout an entire season, and collect the necessary points even when play falters. Consistency is the word on Wengers lips and that which will decide Arsenal’s season in the end.
The surprise acquisition of Silvestre, from arch rivals Man United, gives some much needed depth to the Arsenal backline. Senderos failed to impress last season, when injuries gave him the chance to play, and consequently he has been shipped off to Milan. Another astute move by Wenger it seems: Silvestre will add competition to the left back spot and will likely fill in when central defense dynamo Kalou and Gallas get injured or need resting. Silvestre also adds some much needed experience and will fit well in to the swelling ranks of the ‘French Foreign Legion’, already within the Gunner lines.
Arsenal also embarrassed FC Twente, beating them 6-0 on aggregate, to qualify for the European Champions League. Pitted together in a group with FC Porto, Fenerbahce and Dynamo Kiev, they will be hard-pressed not to qualify for the knock-out rounds.
All in all there must be a quiet confidence within the club that they can surpass last year’s achievements and maybe carry home a title to the Emirates - by the end of this season. One certainly can’t complain about the talent currently on display and available for selection anyway…
